Do you mean "non-verbal"?
Many adults who have grown up being described as "non-verbal" have expressed that they don't like this term.
When these people had access to a communication device or book, they said that being called "non-verbal" led to people not including them in decisions about them, and misunderstanding them.
However, there are some people who like to call themselves "non-verbal" too.
